Steps to follow for using PowerPoint effectively in the classroom

1. Show the students at least one example of a PowerPoint presentation.

2. Select a theme that has several subtopics.

- Ask the students to suggest subtopics that relate to the
main theme as this allows for student input.

- Write these topics on the board.

3. Discuss the aspects that you want the students to include in
their presentations. The objective of the discussion is to:

- Clarify what you want the students to do.

- Standardize the format

- Reduce the plagiarism from original sources.

- Have each student select a topic from the board.

Internet research

This can be tricky because the students can cut and paste information into their Word processing file, sometimes even without reading it! Requiring a specific format can help reduce the copied work.
